Every Wednesday during the school year, over one hundred 1st through 5th graders converge on First Baptist Church right after school for tutoring and creative workshops. We have an outstanding group of over 50 tutors who work one on one with children in 1st through 5th grades for half an hour each Wednesday afternoon. If your child is struggling with some subjects in school, their tutor will help them in those areas. If your child is doing well in all areas of their schooling, the tutors will be working with them on reading comprehension as well as their homework. In addition to tutoring, kids will be participating in creative workshops such as cooking, music, dance, drama, drawing and crafts. The kids who show signs of improvement will be invited to a big party at the end of each semester to celebrate their progress.
We will pick up kids from Henry Elementary right after school each Wednesday and you can pick them up when we’re finished at First Baptist Church at 5pm. If your child attends Holy Rosary or Clinton Christian Academy, you will need to provide transportation for your child to the church. Piano Lessons - We will be offering free piano lessons in addition to tutoring and other creative workshops. The lessons will be approximately half an hour, one on one with an individual teacher. We also have some electronic keyboards that students can take home to practice on if they don’t have access to a piano or keyboard. The “take home” keyboards will require a $20 deposit that will be returned when the keyboard is returned at the end of the year. At this point we are limiting the piano lessons to 18 students and they will be registered on a first come basis. So, if you have a child who is interested, call right away.
